The ABBC of Learning to Read

It all starts with A Baby, a Book and a Cuddle.

That is all you need to get your baby started on the road to reading. Cuddle that baby, recite nursery rhymes and sing familiar songs. Baby will learn the rhythm of the language.

As the months pass, get out that book of nursery rhymes. If you are buying a new book of rhymes, pick one that has only one nursery rhyme on each page. Hold your baby and the book so they can see the illustrations. Do lots of talking too. Take your baby’s hand and touch the pictures. Eg. “This is the ladybug.”
Months later your baby will want to touch. Babies love to touch. Cloth books with lots of things to feel are great.

When your baby is sturdy enough to sit up and hold a book, they will also want to eat it.

That’s next.
