Toddler Reading

By the time your baby is two, if you have been reading for even 15 minutes a day, your child will have logged an amazing number of hours with books and reading.
And what have they learned? The foundations of our language, that’s what. An understanding of how books work, the left to right progression of the print, lots of vocabulary, a repertoire of stories and rhymes.

Read aloud every day and talk about what you read. Ask questions. This talk is crucial to developing literacy. It is how children learn to make meaning of what they read and clarify ideas.

Stories with predictable patterns are favourites at this age.

Children can join in, counting and repeating familiar words and phrases.
